Tom Szaky
Founder
TerraCycle

Tom Szaky under the LOOP initiative has amassed a blue-chip roster of companies, to pilot a new system of high-quality packaging that can be returned and refilled again and again. Loop partners include Procter & Gamble, Nestlé, PepsiCo, Unilever, Mars, Clorox, Coca-Cola, Mondelēz, Danone and a dozen or so smaller brands. European retailer Carrefour, logistics company UPS and resource management company Suez are also engaged in the system. Loop brings back the old 'milkman model,' where products are delivered to your door at the same time empties are picked up, washed, refilled and readied for delivery to another customer.

A New Recycling Technology to Forever Change Plastic Waste
PureCycle, developed by P&G, is a revolutionary technology and approach that harnesses plastic waste as a renewable resource that can be used infinitely. Their ground-breaking, patented recycling process, developed by P&G, separates color, odor and any other contaminants from plastic waste feedstock to transform it into ultra-pure recycled polypropylene. This process fully closes the loop in the reuse of recycled plastics while making recycled plastics more accessible at scale to companies desiring to use a sustainable, recycled resin

Rhea Hale
Director of Public Policy
WestRock

Historically, paper-based foodservice packaging, which includes items such as single-use coffee cups, takeout cartons and pizza boxes, has not been widely accepted in recycling programs due to concerns over polymer coatings and food contamination. Last fall, WestRock Company, a leading provider of differentiated paper and packaging solutions, announced it would begin accepting paper foodservice packaging at its 100% recycled paperboard mills across the United States. WestRock was recently selected as one of twelve winners in the NextGen cup challenge for its recyclable and compostable paperboard cup solution. See how WestRock is advancing the recycling of current foodservice packaging and designing for the future.
