Frances has pioneered the role of embedding sustainability throughout her company and beyond. She is a strategic force that engages, educates and empowers employees, customers, reseller partners and the community at large, resulting in HP Canada being able to state they are Canada's most environmentally responsible IT company and for 10 years have been listed as one of Canada’s Greenest Employers. She invented the now globally adopted "HP Eco Advocate" program that educates HP employees about sustainability issues pertinent to HP’s business. Her role in the WWF Living Planet@Work and the new Living Planet@Campus programs are other examples of her long term vision for driving sustainability across many sectors and throughout Canada.

Annette Synowiec
Manager of Business Operations and Change Initiatives, Solid Waste Division

Annette Synowiec is the acting Manager of Business Operations and Change Initiatives in the Solid Waste Management Services Division at the City of Toronto. This is a new role at the City of Toronto responsible for spearheading the development of the Division's Unit for Research Innovation and a Circular Economy - One of the first of its kind in the province of Ontario which is housed within local municipal government.

She has a diploma in Public Administration and has worked in all aspects of integrated municipal solid waste management for more than 15 years including budget development, policy and program planning, collections, processing operations and policy development.


Joe Hruska
VP of Sustainability
Canadian Plastics Industry Association


As Vice President of Sustainability, Joe Hruska leads the development and execution of the Canadian Plastics Industry's sustainability, advocacy, and partnership programs to promote solutions that increase the recycling & recovery of plastics at their end-of-life and reduce marine litter.

More than 12 years ago Joe created and managed his own consulting firm, Hruska and Associates with a client base of public and private sector organizations. He has extensive knowledge of and experience in the fields of recycling, recovery of plastics, in leading and managing stewardship programs, and has been the agent of success in numerous post-use/sustainability projects including the United Nations recognized Blue Box program first launched in Ontario.
