Derek Awalt is Sr. Supply Chain Integration Manager Digimarc, a technology company based in Beaverton Oregon with over 20 years of innovation in digital watermarking. Derek manages Digimarc’s partnerships with the industry leading premedia and printers like Schawk, SGS, WestRock and Berry Global. Derek also supports the global print community involved in producing packaging and commercial print work that contain Digimarc Barcodes.
Christina Cvetan, Global R&D Capability, Intelligent Packaging, Unilever
Christina has worked at Unilever in R&D Packaging for over 17 years supporting the Health & Beauty, Homecare and Foods categories. In her current role, Christina is responsible for developing Intelligent Packaging capability through innovation and technology partnerships that can be applied globally across categories and customer channels. Inspired and influenced by the circular economy systemic approach, she believes by working in partnership we can bring new ideas to life and make our world a much better place today and into the future. Christina is a graduate of the Mohawk College Packaging Technology program.
James D Downham, President & CEO, PAC Packaging Consortium
Since 2006 Jim Downham has been advancing the packaging industry agenda as the President & CEO for the not-for-profit, PAC, Packaging Consortium. Prior to PAC Jim spent his career in the manufacturing of package materials/containers rising to the level of CEO of a $175 million multi-plant North American packaging leader. In 2000 Jim founded LeaderLinx, a packaging industry consultant. In November 2014 Jim reached the pinnacle of his career when he was inducted into the Packaging Hall of Fame in Chicago, Illinois.
Leon Hall, Retail Ready Packaging Solutions Lead, WestRock
With 20+ years’ experience in retail, Leon has lead several strategic initiative both internally and externally for Walmart US and Walmart Canada. Starting his career stocking shelves in a local grocery in Brantford, ON He made his way to Walmart Canada Home Office where he lead their sustainable packaging efforts and began North America’s journey on Retail Ready Packaging. Leon recently left Walmart US, where he was a key member of their Retail Ready Packaging Standards Team to join WestRock as their lead in their Enterprise Solutions Team where they are focused on creating the most efficient Retail/Shelf Ready Packaging solutions leveraging WestRock’s Global Enterprise in both design & automation.
Joe Jackman, CEO, Jackman Reinvents
Joe Jackman is a reinventionist, a believer in and a practitioner of rapid business transformation. As the founder and CEO of Jackman Reinvents, Joe has pioneered an efficient way to get mature businesses back to growth and relevance. Educated in industrial design, in his early career Joe co-founded what is today one of Canada’s leading brand design firms and was for many years its Chief Creative Officer. He went on to tackle business challenges at one of its clients, Loblaw Companies, Canada’s largest retailer, as Executive Vice-President, Marketing.
Peter Kallai, President & CEO, intelliFLEX
Peter Kallai was the Founding Executive Director of the intelliFLEX Innovation Alliance (formerly the Canadian Printable Electronics Industry Association). He is also the President and CEO of KEYSTEP Growth & Finance. This Ottawa-based boutique consulting firm has focused on emerging technologies for 20 years. As a senior high-tech management consultant, Peter has assisted leading companies in optical and wireless communications, software and earth observation with their growth plans and financing. He has been involved with the inception, growth, exit and merger or acquisition of more than 40 companies. In the role of Vice-President, he helped a TSX-listed company grow from $3.2 million to over $100 million in revenue. Peter has also served on various boards and committees of companies and public sector R&D organizations. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree and a Masters in Business Administration Degree (MBA) in Strategy and Finance. Peter is also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) with the Project Management Institute (US).
Maciej Kiryllo, Business Development Director, Talkin' Things
Maciej has 20+ years experience in sales and marketing. He has almost 7 years of experience as a Deputy Managing Director at DDB Warsaw. He worked with brands such as McDonald’s, Nissan, Unilever, Nestle and Géant. After leaving the agency side he become a CE Marketing Director for HBO. Three years later he joined a Canal+ team as a board member. Maciej joined Talkin’ Things in October 2016 and contributed to develop marketing functionalities with NFC technology usage. Today he is responsible for business development and with his team creates tailored made NFC campaigns.
Jennifer Lee, Partner, National Retail Leader and Consumer Analytics Practice Leader,
Jennifer leads National Retail Leader & Consumer Analytics Practice Leader for Deloitte Canada. Her mandate is to leverage her Retail and Consumer expertise in Omnichannel to help clients make sense of the vast quantities of data which exists in their organizations. She focuses on developing insight-driven strategies to deal with an increasingly connected consumer and complex business issues by building and operationalizing eCommerce platforms, mobile capabilities and the re-designing the retail network.
David Luttenberger, Global Packaging Director, Mintel
David joined Mintel in April 2014 as Global Packaging Director. He has nearly 25 years of diverse packaging experience across multiple end-use categories and all packaging formats. He has worked with retailers, CPGs, packaging converters, and design and marketing agencies to help them better understand the business and innovations of packaging. At Mintel he is responsible for custom packaging projects for clients, direct interaction with US and global clients, sales support and new business development, and providing packaging insights to media.
Jeffrey Moore, General Sales Manager, Add Ink - a division of Atlantic Packaging
Jeffrey has over twenty years of Packaging sales experience and has worked with some of Canada’s largest Food, Beverage and CPG companies. Jeffrey joined Atlantic Packaging Products in 2002 where he has held positions in multiple divisions. He took on his latest role as General Sales Manager at Atlantic’s Decorative Packaging and Display division (Add Ink) in 2014. Jeffrey and his team look to Innovation, Sustainability and Cradle to Cradle life cycles as being key drivers to their customer’s future success. Add Ink has won numerous awards for bringing Creative and Innovative solutions to it’s customer’s retail programs through Structural Design, Print and Leading Edge Technologies.
Sarah Trickey, Senior Manager of Brand Engagement, WestRock
Sarah is a Senior Manager on the Brand Engagement team leading innovation and Brand Engagement initiatives with our key Enterprise accounts at WestRock. Specifically a key member of the Global Coca-Cola business. Supporting Connected Packaging Solutions through marketing and business development. She has over 12 years of experience in the advertising world within Account Management working on global brands such as McDonald’s, MasterCard, GEICO, DuPont, Discovery Channel and Nestle. Starting her career out in London, UK working for McCann Erickson then stateside to the Martin Agency and then heading down under to DDB in Sydney Australia. She is an adjunct professor for Virginia Commonwealth University and has been with WestRock for 5 years.

Bill Van Orsdel is a Director at Thin Film Electronics. As the former CMO of a publishing startup and the EVP of a Digital Agency, Bill spent 6 years defining strategies to create communities of superfans for his clients’ products and services. Experimenting with influencer marketing, viral campaigns and data-focused digital tactics lead him to conclude that first-party data always wins.
